This campaign closed on Dec 31, 2015 This campaign closed on Dec 31, 2015 and $310 is hard at work in Mozambique.
For 663 million people, walking for water is a job you can't take a day off from. Women and children, especially, will spend hours each day walking and waiting for dirty water. Water that makes them sick.
I'm lucky enough to have access to clean water from a tap in my apartment. But that doesn't mean I won't be walking.
Until I reach my goal, I will walk to and from the charity: water office instead of taking the subway. That's 2.8 miles each way. Heat, rain, smelly streets of New York: bring it on.
You can save my feet from a lot of pain and help bring clean water to 100 people. Give a little, give a lot, give what you can. The only crazy thing happening here is that 663 million people don't have clean water to drink.
$30 can bring clean water to one person.
Make me run home instead of walking. Full disclosure: I had pneumonia earlier this year, so this is hard.
Have $60 on hand? You'll get to #choosemaksshoes* and give two people clean water.
Just choose from the options here and comment with your choice! I'll film it and post it on social media (or directly to your inbox, if you want the 2-hour version).
Have $600 to give? You can make me walk barefoot and give 20 people clean water.
Through LES, Tribeca, and Williamsburg. Through Chinatown. I'll prove this too (and probably live-tweet all the gross things I step on).
On day one, I wore 4-inch heels and grossly misjudged how long it takes to traverse nearly 3 miles in New York City.
On day ten, I wore my brand new sneakers and someone spilled a half bottle of stale beer on my leg.
I can promise that this will get interesting.
charity: water promises that 100% of what you give will directly fund water projects and they'll prove our impact with photos and GPS coordinates.
*shoes will be from my existing closet unless you want to get creative and throw some extra cash behind my discomfort.
