Why Alec Timberlake Bishop is fundraising for clean water

In many places around the world the onus of collecting water falls upon women and girls. Often these women and girls must walk miles before they reach the nearest accessible water source, spending hours each day making multiple trips to gather water for their families. One of the consequences of this is that girls do not receive the same access to education as boys. Likewise, the hours of strenuous work spent walking for water limits the ability of women to invest in other areas of their lives such as completing their education, improving their homes, or beginning businesses.

As someone who is passionate about my own education and the issues facing women around the globe, I have decided to partner with a organization called charity: water by joining an initiative in which individuals pledge their birthdays to raising money and awareness to combat the problems that result from people’s lack of access to clean water. Over the course of these next few months I would love it if you chose to join me in this campaign to raise money for women and girls around the world by donating and spreading the word. Anything you can give is a great help and I am hoping that together we can reach far beyond our goal of $700.00, which would provide 23 people access to clean water.

One of the main reasons why I chose to fundraise through this organization is that 100% of the money we raise will be used to build clean water projects. More importantly however, I chose to partner with charity: water because they are not only working to positively impact people’s access to basic needs, but simultaneously empowering local economies so that communities do not become reliant upon foreign aid.

I am very thankful for your support in this endeavor and encourage you to consider starting your own fundraising campaign for a cause that you find important. I think this organization is pretty cool and if you are interested in learning more about it check out the rest of their website. Some of the stories they provide about the impact that clean water has on people are particularly inspiring, here are a few links if you feel so inclined: https://charitywater.exposure.co/the-boy-who-walked-for-water

Lastly, be sure to keep up to date with the campaign because when the water project we help fund is completed charity: water will send out photos and GPS coordinates of the site so that we can see the exact community this has benefited.
